Sydney has the largest companion scene in Australia and one of the longest-running decriminalised systems in the world, which makes it the easiest city in the country to book well in. It is also a city that rewards a little local knowledge: which parts of town the independents work from, where a dinner date lands, how late things run, and how to get around after midnight. This is that knowledge, in one place.

New South Wales decriminalised sex work in 1995. Independent companions, brothels and clubs all operate lawfully, within council planning rules; our state-by-state guide has the detail. Everything in this guide is for adults.

How the city is laid out

Sydney's companion scene follows its geography:

  • The CBD and the harbour are where most outcalls land: the hotels along George Street, Circular Quay, the Rocks and Barangaroo. Companions across the city will travel here, usually without a travel fee.
  • The inner east (Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Potts Point, Paddington) is the traditional heart of the independent scene, with many incalls in apartments and a dense run of restaurants and bars for a dinner date.
  • The inner west (Newtown, Glebe, Marrickville) has a smaller, more relaxed scene, and some of the city's best casual dining.
  • The north shore and the eastern beaches (North Sydney, Chatswood, Bondi, Coogee) have fewer incalls and more outcalls; expect a travel fee from the inner city.
  • Parramatta and the west is a real market of its own, with its own incalls and venues, and companions who work there rather than travel in.

On LuXeel, the Sydney directory page lists published independents with their rates and availability, and the map shows where incalls and venues sit at suburb level (never an exact address).

Venues and clubs

Sydney has licensed brothels and adult clubs operating openly under council planning consent, and LuXeel lists the ones that have been reviewed and published. A brothel booking is a different experience from an independent one (you choose on arrival, the house sets the rates and handles the admin, and there is no screening or deposit), and some clients prefer it for a first visit for exactly that reason. Clubs are a night out first and whatever follows second.

The Sydney brothels and Sydney clubs pages list what is currently published with hours, areas and what each place is like. For what is on tonight, including events, the Tonight page is updated daily.

Planning a dinner date in Sydney

A dinner date is the booking Sydney does best, because the city's restaurants are good and the hotels are close to them. A plan that works:

  1. Book her first. Three to five hours, an evening, starting at seven or eight. Ask whether she has a part of town she prefers; most will say the CBD or the inner east.
  2. Book the restaurant in your name. Somewhere with tables far enough apart to talk. The inner east and the harbour side of the CBD have dozens; the ones that regularly host dinner dates are discreet by habit. Ask her for a suggestion; she will have one.
  3. Book the room. A good CBD hotel, in your name, checked into before dinner so the key is in your pocket.
  4. Meet where she suggests, often the hotel bar or the restaurant itself. Most companions arrive on their own.
  5. Dinner, then a walk if the weather allows (the harbour at night is the thing visitors remember), then the hotel.
  6. Leave the rate out of the evening until you are in private. To the restaurant you are two people at dinner.

Our dinner date guide covers the conventions in detail, and the etiquette guide the rest.

Practical Sydney

  • Getting around after midnight. Trains run late on Fridays and Saturdays but not all night; rideshares are the reliable option and are plentiful in the CBD and inner east. Companions arrange their own transport to and from a booking; do not offer to drive them.
  • Hotels. The CBD has the depth: from business hotels to the harbour-front flagships. Book in your own name, and give the room number only when she asks for it, on the night.
  • Cash. Most independents take the deposit by transfer and the balance in cash. ATMs are everywhere in the CBD; have the full amount before you meet.
  • Timing. Sydney's independents work evenings and weekends heavily; weekday afternoons are easier to book at short notice. "Available now" on a LuXeel profile means the companion has updated her status today.
  • Touring companions. Sydney is the first stop on most tours. Touring dates appear on profiles and posts a week or two ahead; the city's directory page shows who is in town.
  • Lockout laws were wound back in 2020 and 2021; the CBD and Kings Cross run late again, though the inner-east scene has shifted somewhat towards Surry Hills and the inner west.

Safety and good practice

Sydney is a safe city for this, and the law is on the side of both parties. The things that keep it that way:

  • Book reviewed profiles. On LuXeel every profile is checked by a person before it is published, and verification badges and verified reviews tell you more.
  • Pay the deposit and provide screening. It is normal, it is quick, and the companions who ask for it are the ones running a professional business.
  • Keep your phone in your pocket. Recording without consent is a crime in NSW, and it is the fastest way to end a booking.
  • Respect boundaries, pay in full, leave on time. The etiquette guide has the whole list; none of it is complicated.

A Sydney evening, hour by hour

For a visitor with one night, here is how it tends to run:

  • Afternoon. Check into the CBD hotel. Confirm with your companion by message: time, meeting place, nothing else.
  • Seven. Meet at the hotel bar or the restaurant. A drink, a chat, the ordering done without fuss.
  • Nine thirty. A walk along the harbour if the weather is kind; the Opera House and the bridge lit up are worth the twenty minutes.
  • Ten. Back to the hotel. The private part of the evening begins; the balance is handed over in the first minute, without being asked.
  • Late. The booking ends when the time ends. A thank you, and she arranges her own way home.

Vary it as you like; the shape (public first, unhurried, discreet, on time) is what makes it work.

Beyond Sydney

The same scene exists, at a smaller scale, in Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, each with its own venues and its own feel. Our city-by-city rates guide compares them.
